Drifting sands set in motion by persistent winds from off the sea are problems for the farmer who is unlucky enough to have his property endangered by the proximity °! amoving menace. Such is the position at Marybank, where several holdings of valuable land are endangered by the drifting waste sands from coastal dunes (says the Wanganui Chronicle). As yet the danger is only slightly felt, but within a few years there is every possibility of fertile land _ being overwhelmed until it becomes a miniature Sahara. A farmer remarked that Wanganui would soon have in Marybank a rival to the Landes dunes of Bouth-western France.
