A VICTIM OF DRINK.
THEFT OF ROLL OF TWEED. CHRISTCHURCH, August 16. ‘‘Drink has been the cause of all my trouble,” Robert Richard John Davis told Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day when he was charged with the theft of a roll of tweed valued at £7 15s 6d. the property of Daniel M'Douald. Chief Detective Lewis said that accused was a tailor by occupation. He had walked into another tailor's shop and took the tweed from the counter. He had previously been convicted for using obscene language and resisting the police. “You have a bad list, a very bad list,” said the Magistrate to the accused. “Are you married or single?” “Divorced,” replied the accused. Accused was convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, with hard labour.
