A MOTION OF CENSURE.
THE GOVERNMENT CRITICISED CHRISTCHURCH. August 1.
At a- meeting of the Methven branch of the Reform League the following resolution was carried unanimously and a copy is to be sent to the Prime Minister and Mr D. Jones, M.P. for Ellesmere:— “That this meeting of representatives of the Methven branch of the Reform League views with alarm the attitude of the present Ministry in framing legislation which is undoubtedly tn the detriment of the primary producer. It also stresses the fact that under the present arbitration system the awards pronounced by the court are protective of secondary industries, while the costs as passed on to the producers are prohibitive. This branch is also of the opinion that the time is ripe for a radical change in the present Government’s attitude in the framing of legislation, some of which works to the detriment of the farming community and the country generally, and pledges itself to press for an alteration in the policy or to support a change of Government.”
