An Invercargill resident deep in the arms of Morpheus was rudely awakened the other morning by shrill squaks and much fluttering (states the Southland Times). The disturbance continued for some minutes, and he decided it was high time to investigate. Going cautiously up the stairs which led to an attic from whence the sounds came, he was soon enlightened. Half hidden by a large beam, a starling was making strenuous efforts to escape from what was evidently a strong hold. Visions of a large rat immediately, rose, but before he could enter the fray the starling got free and flew out by a ventilator. His curiosity aroused, the investigator armed himself prepared to do battle. Imagine his surprise on looking under the beam to find a female staplin’- putting the finishing touches to ai nest with one of Mr Starlings tail feathers. “And this is marriage; he mused, as he sought his bachelor couch, i once again. _.is
