HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

MEETING OF- PLUNKET SOCIETY. The ordinary monthly meeting of the committee of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the Piunket office on Friday. Present —Mesdanies Johnstone (in the chair), Cunninghame, Cleghorn, Fraser, Williams, Taverner, Dove, G. Gallaway. J. >S. M'George, Mandeno, the Misses Burt and Reid, and the secretary.

The Secretary presented the statement of the society’s finances to date, and accounts were passed for payment. The resignations of Mesdanies Benson and Roland Fulton as ' embers of the committee were accepted with regret.

The Matron of the Karitane-Harris Hospital reported for the month of June as under:—Number of patients in on May 31—mothers 5, babies 24 total 29; number of patients admitted for treatment—mothers 10, babies 17, total 27; number of patients discharged—mothers 11, babies 19, total 30; 'Himber of deaths—babies 2, total 2; number of patients in on June 30—mothers ■+, babies 20, total 24; largest number in on any one day—mothers 5. babies 25, total 30.' The sources of admission were as follows:—Five mothers and babies from Dunedin : one mother and baby from Cromwell; one mother and baby from Company’s Bay; one mother and baby from Hawera; one mother and baby from Palmerston South ; one mother only from Dunedin. Babies: Five "babies from Dunedin ; one babv from Duntroon; one baby from Kaitangata ; one baby from Invercargill.

There are 18 Phmket nurses in training. Nurse Lc Cornu has commenced her training. There are 11 Karitane nurses in training. Nurse Bingham was granted four months’ leave of absence owing to ill-health, and Nurse Clove is at present on sick leave. Nurse Irwin lias commenced her training. Lectures have been given during the month bv Dr Strain.

Gifts were received from Miss O’Shea. The Phmket nurses for North and Central Dunedin districts reported for the month of June as under:—Nmnbei of babies on the list. 745: number of babies breast-fed (including partly), 261 ; number of new cases for the mouth (babies only), 24; number of babies breast-fed (including partly, new cases). 20; number of visits paid to homes, 622 ; number of visits paid to Phmket rooms.—Stuart street : 261 mothers. 209 babies, 18 older children ; —total, 488. Roslyn : 110 mothers. 109 babies, 12 older children ;— total, 231. Kelsey-Y aralla Kindergarten : 70 mothers, 46 babies, 27 older children total, 143. Out-patients’ department Public Hospital: 4 mothers, 3 babies, 2 older children ;—total, 9. Number of bottles of humanised milk sentout from Taieri Dairy, 5580.

The Piunket nurses for South Dunedin districts reported for the month of June as under:—Number of babies on the list, 498; number of babies breast-fed (including partly), 124; number of new cases for the month (babies onlv). 17; number of babies breast-fed (including partly, new cases), 16; number of new cases expectant mothers, 3; number of visits paid to Phmket rooms: King Edward street, South Dunedin : 174 mothers 158 rabies. 35 older children :—total. 367: number of visits paid to homes. 292. The Piunket Nurse for Caversham dis trict and out-stations (north lines) reported for month of June as under;—Number of babies on the list, 194 ; number of babies breast-fed (including partly), 49; number of new cases for the month (babies only), 10 ; number of babies breast-fed (including partly, new cases), 10; number of visits paid to homes. 171 ; number of visits paid to office from Caversham : 70 adults 55 babies. 6 older children ; —total, 131 ; number of visits paid to office from intstations: 47 adults. 33 babies, 6 older children ;—total, 88. Number of visits paid to out-stations: Waikouaiti. 4; Port Chalmers, 5; St. Leonards, 5; Ravcnsbourne, 5. The Piunket Nurse for Andenson’s Bay district and out-stations (south .inc) reported for the month of June as under:— Number of cases on the list, 230 ; number of babies breast-fed (including partly). 90 ; number of new cases for the month (babies only), 12; number of babies breastfed (including partly, aew cases), 11. Number of visits paid to homes: Anderson’s Bay, 72; Mosgiel, 16; Abbotsford, Green Island, and Buruside, 68; Macandrew’s Bay. 15;—total, 171. Number of visits paid to rooms:—Central office, Stuart street : From Anderson’s Bay—l3o adults; 122 babies. 16 older children ;— total, 268: Mosgiel— 37 adults, 35 babies, 9 older children :—total, 81: Macandiew s Bav —9 adults, 8 babies, 3 older children ;— total, 20.
