A representative meeting of citizens in the Town Hall to-night, over which the Mayor presided, formed a branch of the New Zealand Timber Industry Advancement League. Among the speakers was the organiser of the league (Mr W. E. Turnbull), who detailed the growth of the league elsewhere. The following resolution was unanimously passed:—That the Government be asked to make discussion by Parliament of the findings of the Tariff Commission a matter of urgency, bringing it on immediately it is received.
