COSY CORNER CLUB.

PROGRAMME FOR 1927. Dear Comrades ot the Cosy Corner, —I have had many letters from members during and since last session of the Cosy Corner Club expressing the interest and pleasure the writers derived from the discussions. I hope that this year’s session will be a particularly enjoyable one. I have included in the programme several topics which have proved particularly successful in former years. I don’t think this will lead to repetition. There is so much to say on all of tlrem, and new experiences to be related. I hope there will be a good rally of members at the opening meeting, and that numbers will be maintained fairly during the session. I should like to see a number of new recruits, and I hope last year’s members, some of whom contributed only once or twice, will appear more regularly. Members need not hold themselves bound to contribute to every meeting, though I am very glad of the support of some much-appreciated contributors who hardly ever fail to appear. I want the club to maintain a high standard, so here are a few rules for the less practised writers : 1. Keep to the subject set. 2. Arrange your subject matter and avoid diffuseness. 3. Try to make your papers interesting and stimulating. Give of your best. 4. Cultivate clearness and brightness. Be amusing if the subject admits of it. ESTHER. TOPICS. First Meeting—May : As usual, this will be a members meeting, contributors choosing their own subject, or, if they prefer, selecting some interesting piece of either prose or verse. Date for sending in contributions, May 9. Second Meeting—June: “My Garden.” Alternative topic, “Pleasant Holiday Recolbections.” Date for sending in, June 6, Thirb Meeting—July : “My Animal Friends.” Here is an opportunity for animal-lovers to give an account of some favourite pets, or to describe the ways ot wild things they know intimately. The term “animal” * is, of course, used to include all creatures of the animal world. I knew an old lady who cherished a pet spider. Date, July 4. Fourth Meeting—August : “The Most Enjoyable Book I Have Lately Read.” Contributors are invited to giw a brief sketch of some book which has specially pleased them within the last year or so. One end to be attained through this topic is the introduction of good and entertaining books to readers who may not know them. Hence it is preferable, though not essential, to write either ot a nevi book or of an older one that is not generally familiar. Date, August 8. Fifth Meeting—September : “A Musical Gathering.” This topic affords room for great variety of treatment. Probably all contributors have some love of music, though they may not be performers nor have much knowledge of the art. Let them say something of their favourite musical compositions, including songs. Other ways of dealing with the subject would be to comment on modern musical developments, and to compare popular music and songs of today with those of Victorian days, or to discuss the place of music in education and in life generally. The influence on musical culture of the pianola, the gramophone, and broadcasted music might also be discussed, and the forms of music in non-European lands be noticed. Date, September 11. Sixth Meeting—October: “Careers for Women." In these days it is generally recognised that girls should be trained to be economically self-supporting. Members are invited to discuss various callings from the point of view of their suitability for women Thu opportunities afforded to rise and make provision for the future should be considered, as also the social usefulness of the occupations. Date, October 10. RULES OF COSY CORNER CLUB. 1. Each new member on joining to choose a pen-name, and furnish his or her own name and address, which will be regarded as confidential. 2. Contributions to ; be legibly written In dark ink or clearly typed. 3. Length .limit ot all contributions. 600 words.
