FATE OF SHIP’S CAT.

WELLINGTON, March 2. The crew of the Hororata, which arrived yesterday, had a rather unusual story to tell of the ship’s cat. It was a favourite with everybody, and was chasing a piece of paper caught by the breeze on the top promenade deck in the afternoon, when poor pussy, in her excitement, leapt through the ship’s rail and fell into the sea. A big albatross hovering around the vessel swooped down, and. to the dismay of the onlookers, picked the cat up from the water. put in some good work with her claws, causing the albatross to relinquish its hold, the Persian dropping again into the sea, a distance of about 60 feet. The respite was but brief for poor puss, for in an instant a whole family of albatrosses swept down and literally, tore her to pieces.
