Bills’- Grime, feather, light, and 'welter champion ef Australia, arrived at Auckland on Tuesday, en route to Wellington, where he meets Charles Purdy in 15 rounds for £2OO. JANSEN DEFEATS JAMITO. BLENHEIM, March 3. A 15 rounds professional bout in .His Majesty’s Theatre to-night between Raymond Jansen 9.11 and Salvino Jamito 9.11, went the full distance before a full house, which was delighted with the clean fight. There was some hard hitting, and wonderful footwork, particularly on the part of the Frenchman after the opening rounds. The fight was notable for the sportsmanlike tactics of both boxers throughout the progress of the contest. Jamito persistently bored in on his opponent, forcing the issue from beginning to end, but the Frenchman’s wonderful defence, clean hitting, and extraordinary

agility on his feet offset the aggressiveness of the Filipino. The verdict went to Jansen, both men receiving hearty applause at the close of an even fight. SHARKEY BEAT M'TIGUE. NEW YORK, March 3. Cambridge won the inter-university boxing championships by four bouts to three. SCOTT BEATS DIENER. LONDON, March 5. The Daily Express’s Berlin correspondent states that Scott, in defeating Diener, fought the fight of his life. He gave his opponent a terrific hiding, and how Diener managed to stand against the blows which smashed against his jaw- was astonishing, It was no wonder that he earned such a reputation in America. It was on the whole a clean fight, although Scott was warned twice for using the rabbit punch, and Diener was cautioned for using tl*c kidney blow, which brought Scott down. The crowd roared in anticipation of their countryman’s victory, but Scott rose, pulled himself together, and punched Diener all over the ring. The decision was not questioned, and the crowd acclaimed the victor vigorously, and roared when they saw Scott capering round the ring like a schoolboy, with the customary laurel wreath conferred on the victor. The New South Wales amateur athletics chamiponship meeting was largely spoiled oy rain. In putting the 161 b shot G. Lewis (Queensland) defeated A. G. M'lntosh, the Australasian champion, covering 42ft sJin against MTntosh’s 42ft. In e 100 yards junior event M'Kinnor, aged 15 years, took 10 2-ssec, clipping l-ssec off 'arlton’s record. In the one mile run B. W. Clarke made a new championship record of 4min 48sec. These are the outstanding features of the meeting.
