DANGER OF ANOTHER WAR.

DR INGRAM’S WARNING. FAITH IN LEAGUE OF NATIONS. WELLINGTON, March 1. “I do not think you realise the tremendous danger there is of another war,” said the Bishop of London, Dr Ingram, when addressing the New Zealand Club to-day.-He said he believed he had made a certain amount of impression upon a great body in America. Although they had not yet joined the League* of Nations, he told them that the English-speaking race was strong enough in itself to stop any war. If another war came it would be 10 times worse than the last one. It would be a holocaust of human life. Every man should fight dav and night to prevent such an awful calamity as another war. There was only one chance, and that was through the League of Nations. He told them in America that it was possible, if thev would help, to ruin any other nation which went to war. ‘‘l hope you like your companv,’’ he said to America. “There is a place called Geneva. The League of . Nations has been going five years and of all the nations only you and Russia are left out. I hope you like your company.”—(Laughter.) What had the League of Nations done? He would answer that to New Zealand, but not to America. It had stopped five wars in five years, including that between Great Britain and Turkey for Mosul, war m Macedonia, Greece, and between France and Germany. It had brought those bankrupt nations, Austria. Hungary, and Germany on their feet again ;it had dealt with child labour; rescued thousands of girl victims from the hands of the Turks, in which work he had himself assisted. In these islands of New Zealand they were too nappy, comfortable, and prosperous, and were apt to forget the dangers of another war. There was only one chance for the great peace of the world—by putting their moral influence and force and upholding the hands, of Lord Cecil and Sir Austen Cnamberlam, who. were holding down th® war spirit and striving.to maintain neace< Do not be content with vour own happiness and prosperity,” said Dr Ingram; but remember that, though you are so far away, you are knit up in the fortune of tlie world. Throw yourselves with your moral force into the League of Nations and let us have peace on earth at last.”
