WHISKY ILLEGALLY SOLD.
WON IN A LOTTERY. i • ASHBURTON, January 28. Arising out of a charge, adjourned from a fortnight ago of illegally selling whisky offered as a prize for a lottery in connection with a Catholic bazaar at Mount Somers, George Michael Doak appeared at the Ashburton Court to-day. A woman won the prize, but as she did not want the whisky, Doak collected various sums to make up its value. A fine of £3 was imposed. . A similar charge against Flora M'Donald Green, winner of the prize,’ was dismissed, the magistrate saying . that there might have- been a-technical offence.
