. . - CHRISTCHURCH, January 21. Produce is now commencing to come forward, sainples of Algerian wheat, oats, perennial ryegrass and chaff having been shown during , the week, but there is too big a spread between growers and merchants’ ideas to lead to much business. The free selling of wheat mentioned in midweek continued on Wednesday, there being, a fairly heavy disposal to merchants at ss' 6d on trucks. 1 Samples of Algerians and Garton oats have .crime to hand from Ashburton, and ! sales of Algerians have befen made at 2s 3d to 2s 4d oh trucks. The Gartons are a ’ particularly good Sample and are quoted at 2s 7d and 2s 8d on trucks. Merchants are shy of business at 3s-2d to 3s 3d f.0.b., s.i. The fields so far - are well up to forecasts. : - Some excellent Fsamples of chaff - have come to hand. They are-good, bright,-and clean if somewhat idn the light side. On : truck quotations, are £3 5s a ton. , . Perennial ryegrass was offered during the week. It was very light, ranging from 191 b to 211 b to the bushel,. Up to 3s on trucks is quoted for good seed. Blight has made its appearance very early this year in some Canterbury districts. -.1t., is . not of such severity so far, but may develop under .the conditions prevailing. .-.-In the-meantime-the-bulk of-the-potato jerops are looking well. Quotations are £4 12s 6d to £4 15s, f.0.b., s.i. ;■ Mdrch- - April at £3 5s on trucks, -at which prices • farmers are not in the least bit . disposed to sell. i ; Onions are quoted at - £4 10s on ; trucks fbr March-April delivery. Peas are a shade quieter than early in the week, and are quoted at 6s 9d to 6s lOd on trucks.
