He was a southern boivler (says the Auckland Star), obviously impressed by th dimension of the crowd which attended the “At Home” at Ellerss lie. “I am icsponding,” he said* “on behalf of the visiting bowlers (pause), and their wives (pause), and their fancies.” The speaker’s hurried correction of the last word to “families” was almost drowned in the uproarious laughter which had .greeted his lapsus linguae*
