As always, ceremony est, ai\d' drew a very large-tftfendanee of spectators! The Chancellor,/ Mr T.- I K. Sidey, f M.P.,' hiembers of the- coujaeil, and the staff occupied seats on tke stage, and the graduates of the year were. accommodated inj, the front seats of tiie orchestral stalls.. T§ie.7 richly-hued acaclemic gowns made a brilliant spectacle, and the entrance of members of the staff was uproariously greeted by the undergraduates, who were grouped in large numbers at the bnck of the theatre. An orchestra played before the opening of the proceedings; and led the singing of the University Anthem. The Chancellor presided. The Rev. Dr Mcrrington, who delivered the main address of the afternoon, was subjected to considerable interruption, which increased in volume towards the close of his speech. The nplse did. not appear to indicate anything'except thnlt under the excitement of capping week undergraduates were unable to Bit quiet for as long as a quarter of an hour. After {he singing of “Gaudeamus” the graduates /Were presented by the deans of their several, faculties to the Chancellor, who conferred the degrees. Those were given to a running commentary of applause and of highly personal remarks, sometimes humorous, from the back of the theatre. A very hearty vote of thanks to Dr Merrington was carried bv 'acclamation before the gathering concluded wish the singing of the Nationnl Anthem. LIST OF GRADUATES.
