TIMBER INDUSTRY.
GREYMOUTH. July 18. Several West Coast sawmills, owing to a lack of orders, are either stopping or shortening hands. The dismissals include 36 men at Kotuku and others in the Mananui and Kumara districts. The white pine trade which was formerly active, w now at a standstill, ai.J the position in the milling industry on the West Coast is at present regarded ns serious.
