AUCKLAND, July 15. A fire in an outhouse at the rear of J. Kilgour’s fruit shop, Onehunga, last night was extinguished by the brigade before much damage was done. It is believed to have been the work of an incendiarisfc. TAUMARUNUI, July 15. A sawmill owned by A. Carlson, which is situated at Owhango, was completely destroyed by fire last night. The greater part of the timber was saved. The fire had a good hold before assistance was obtained, and the fire-fighters concentrated their efforts on saving the timber. The origin of the fire at present is unknown, and the insurances are not available. MARTON. July 12 A five-sea ter Hudson car was destroyed by fire at Silverhope. The vehicle was owned and driven by Mr fc>. Canavan, optician, who was returning to Marton and was accompanied by his mother. It appears that when the car was coming down Hie Silverhope cutting a back-fire occurred, and in a few minutes the car was ablaze. Both Mr Canavan and his mother had great difficulty in escaping from the burning car, as the flames enveloped both doors. The vehicle was compleetly destroyed. Messrs Byrne and Neilson Brothers, who were engaged in rabbiting at Tangaiwai, left their camp in the morning, when everything was all right, and upon returning at night discovered that the ci-mp had been destroyed by fire. A latge number of valuable skins was destroyed, also all their personal effects, including cold watches, and £35 in cash. WELLINGTON, July 18. A fire at Vogel town destroyed the residence of Clarence Welford. The house was insured for £9OO and the furniture for £4OO. BLENHEIM. July 13. Two outbreaks of fire occurred within the last 24 hours. An eight-roomed homestead at Dillon’s Point, near Blenheim, owned and occupied by Mr C. Lucas, was totally destroyed, with its contents. The insurances were £BOO on the dwelling and £250 on the contents in the New Zealand Farmers’ office. Early this morning a six-roomed dwelling in Percy street, owned and occupied by Mr S. T. Evatt, .was badly gutted. The firo had a good hold when discovered, compelling Evatt to run the gauntlet of the flames to rescue his young daughter. All escaped in their night attire. The insurances were £BOO on the house and £250 on the contents in the State office GREYMOUTH, July 15. A barn, owned by Mr Frank Neane, and containing wool and opossum skins, valued at £2OO, and a large stack of hay were destroyed by fire on the Christchurch road last* night. The original of the fire is a mystery. GREYMOUTH, July 18. A motor bus belonging to Hahn’s town service was destroyed by fire on Saturday atout midnight, only the engine being saved. The driver left it for the night standing in a side street near his residence. The cause of the fire is unknown, and the insurances *are not available. HOUSE BADLY GUTTED. Shortly after 1 o’clock on July 15 a fire broke out in an unoccupied sixroomed house in Brook street. North Dunedin. The brigade was summoned, but before the blaze was finally extinguished, the kitchen and the dining room were badly gutted and damaged to the extent of about £2OO.
