MOSGIEL FIRE BRIGADE.

The annual meeting of the Mosgiel Volunteer Fire Brigade was well attended. Captain Smeaton presided. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Captain Smeaton said it gave him great pleasure in printing the twentieth annual report of the brigade. The plant was in excellent working order, 509 ft of hose having been procured this year, 300 ft of which the brigade had to thank the Mosgiel Borough Council for, the other 200 ft having blen bought after the demonstration in Dunedin at a very reason able figure The brigade had occasion to be called out to three fires this year. During the year the brigade had received ex-Lieuten-ant Guest’s resignation as trustee. He desired to th-ink him most sincerely for carrying on till the funds had been transferred to thi Mosgiel Borough Council The amount now being held by that body was in the vicinity of £135. They had had several changes in secretaryship. . Fireman Smellie was at present secretary, and he hoped he would find time to continue as such. He congratulated Lieutenant Mitchell and Fireman White on their attaining office on the Southern Districts Association (Lieutenant Mitchell as treasurer, Fireman White as president). As the demonstration was held in Dunedin this year, a team had been entered, its showing being considered good alongside some of the more experienced brigades It was intended at some future date to raise funds to purchase a fire engine The annual picnic this year had been held at Brighton, and a very enjoyable afternoon spent. In conclusion, he thanked the Mayor, councillors, town clerk, and. the borough workmen for the assistance given at various times during the year; also hou. members for the year ended 1925. The brigade had maintained its full strength throughout the yearr-15 members. Lieutenant Mitchell seconded the adoption of the report, which was carried, and short addresses were given by Crs Garrett, Wright, and Dyer, and Messrs J. Tait and A. Cameron.
