FAVOURABLE IMPRESSIONS.
AFSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. PIETERMARITZBURG, May 8. Mr T. Alcock Dockrall, general manager of the Norwich Ui Life Office, arrived at Durban, Natal, on Friday, May 7, on board the s.s. Nestor from Australia and New Zealand. In a press interview Mr Dockrall expressed his pleasure at being back again in South Africa, although his extended tour through New Zealand and the Commonwealth of Australia had been a jrery happy one, both for himself and for Mrs Dockrall who accompanied him. Mr Dockrall was very much interested in the manner in which the sister . Austral dominions are dealing with the road problem. Recognising that for the advancement of a country good roads are essential, the New Zealanders and Australians are, he says, scientific and up-to-date in their methods; and Mr Dockrall relates that during a 3000 miles motor journey it was only necessary to open one gate. He hopes, with many South Africans, that the time is not far distant when similar satisfactory conditions will prevail in the Union. Both the New Zealanders and the Australians are fully alive to the benefits of membership of the British Empire. In New Zealand, says Mr Dockrall, a concrete attempt to fostor Imperial unity exists • in the fino system of inter-change of teachers from New Zealand with English and Canadian teachers. Australia also arranges for exchange of teachers from the Commonwealth Btate •schools, and those of the London County Council. There is a very friendly feeling towards the Union in Australia and New Zealand, which is manifested by the kindness and hospitality shown to visitors. Australian and* New Zealanders have not forgotten the reception given to their troops on the way to tne Great War by the ports of South Africa.
