TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE.

BRUCE-CLUTHA SUB-BRANCH. A meeting of the Bluce-Clutha subbranch of the Teachers’ Institute was held in the Balclutha School on June 26, when the acting-president (Mr G. G. Menzies) presided over an attendance of about 30 members. Mr J. W. Graham wrote resigning trom the position of secretary of the branch owing to his promotion to Cavers ham School.—The resignation was accepted with regret. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr G. G. .■ Menzies (Tokomairiro D.H.S.); vice-president, Mr D. J. Hepburn (Lovell’s Flat); secretary and treasurer, Mr T. Begg (Balclutha) ; delegates to Otago Committee of Management, Messrs G. G. Menzies and T. Begg. Miss Gillespie, who had represented the branch at the annual conference of the N.Z.T.1., and Mr Begg, who was present as a member cf the executive, gave a full report of the proceedings at the conference. On the motion of Mr Menzies, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Gillespie for her interesting report of the conference proceedings. A men’s meeting was later held, when it was decided to apply to the S.O.R.U. for a schools’ representative on the union. —Mr Rawlinson was nominated for the position, and was also deputed to make the draw for competition among the schools for the South Otago Schools’ Shield. In the meantime the following teams are to play off:—Toko v. Kaitangata, at Milton; Balclutha v. Clinton, at Clinton; Stirling-Benliar, a bye.
