OTAUTAU.

July I.—Mr J. G. Tunnicliffe, who has boon officiating a* first assistant in the local school for some considerable time, and who has accepted a poetion as headmaster at O'Kain's Bay, Canterbury, was the

recipient of a presentation of an electric toaster from the children prior to hie departure. Mr Liddell, chairman of the School Committee, in making the presentation, referred in eulogistic terms to the valuable services Mr Tunnicliffe had rendered to the school, both in hia capacity as teacher and in connection with sport, and expressed regret at hia departure. Mr Tunnicliffe suitably responded. The teaching staff also assembled at the residence of Mr Griffiths, the head master, and asked Mr Tunnicliffe a acceptance of a leather collar box. Mr Griffiths made the presentation in a witty and appropriate speech, and Mr Tunnicliffe suitably acknowledged the gift. Wedding.—A very pretty wedding was celebrated at Wardie, Otautau, on Tuesday, when Anne, eldest daughter of Mr and the late Mrs T. W. Kennedy was united in the bonds of matrimony to Mr Thomas Flett, of Scott’s Gap, Rev. J. B. Bickerstaff being the offioiating clergyman. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Thomas, was charmingly dressed in white silk georgette, with flowing veil and wreath of orange blossoms. She carried a beautiful bouquet of white chrysanthemums, maidenhair fern, and streamers. Her sister Isobel attended as bridesmaid, and was dressed in a lovely frock of white marocain, wore a coronet, and carried a bouquet similar to the bride's. Mr R. W. Clouston attended as best man. The guests adjourned to the barn after the ceremony, where the wedding breakfast was spread, and over which Rev. J. B. Bickerstaff presided. The happy couple were the recipients of numerous congratulatory telegrams, and also many useful and beautiful gifts. They left by motor car on their honeymoon, accompanied by showers of confetti and the best wishes of their friends. The bride travelled in a henna coloured coat frock, with hat, shoes, and stockings to match. Presentation.—Over sixty neighbours and friends assembled in Mrs Swap’s barn on Thursday last to make a presentation to Mr and Mrs E. Coster. Dancing was indulged in to splendid musio supplied by Mrs Muir, Messrs Kearns, Swap, Baird, and Coster, while Mr B. Paterson officiated as M.C. Mr John Muir, in asking the guests to accept a wallet of notes, referred to the fact that Mr and Mrs Coster had not only been good neighbours, but had assisted everything that was for the good of the district, and wished them long life and happiness. Mr J. G. Flett also paid a tribute to the worth of Mr and Mrs Coster. “For they are jolly good fellows” resounded through the building, after which Mr Coster returned thanks for the gift, which he greatly appreciated. Supper, provided by the ladies, was partaken of. The committee in charge of the function deserve a word of commendation for the excellence of the arrangements. A vote of thanks to Mrs Swap for the use of her barn, and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” concluded the proceedings.
