INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
POSITION IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, June 28. Influensa is depleting the attendances at Wellington schools, but so fir the authorities have not thought it necessary to close the schools. A rumour to this effect, current on Saturday, was promptly denied. It waa stated that, though many scholars are absent, the epidemio it not serious enough to warrant closing down. Most cases are absent only for a day or two, and the trouble allows signs of lessening in severity.
INVERCARGILL FREE. INVERCARGILL, June 28. Influents has not appeared in Invercargill, and oolds are common, no serious oases, or any pneumonic influensa have been reported by the doctors or the health authorities. This immunity is largely due to the wonderful spring-like weather conditions at present prevailing, practically no winter weather having bean experienced is yet this year.
Fairly good progress is being made with tha installation of the eleotrio light at the Bakhitha railway station (saya the Clutha Loader), but it is not yet possible to state definitely whan tha much-needed improvement trill be aooompUihed.
Already there are about 500,000 egga in the new natchery at Temuka (reports the Timaru Herald). Tha ranger to the Ao> climatisation Society has trap* in the Opihi, Orari, and Waihi Riven, and flak up to 161 b weight are being caught fog stripping.
