BURGLARY IN DUNEDIN
JEWELLER’S SHOP ROBBED. A burglary in the city was reported to the police on June 28. This time the scene of the thief’s depredations was George street, Where the jewellery shop of Mr F. Himmel was broken into in the early hours of the 27th, between 3.30 and 5 o’clock. It is’ suggested that the thief awaited a favourable opportunity and accomplished his purpose when the constables were changing duty. Few details of the loss can be gleaned, but the fact -that several valuable watches and rings previously on show in the window are now absent would suggest that the enterprising plunderer’s haul was not inconsiderable. Access to the goods oh display was gained through a hole in one of the plate-glass windows, which had been first cut with a diamond and then pushed in.
