The Christchurch Fire Board has retently had reports of an increasing number of malicious false alarms, one of which, a few weeks ago, resulted in a most serious collision on a bridge over the Avon, and has decided that nothing short of imprisonment without the option of a fine will meet the case, the minimum term to be one week. Last week the Wellington Fire Board was asked to support the proposal to seek legislation towards that end (reports the Evening Post), but the members could not agree to it. decidine, however, to back up the proposal that the minimum penalty should be increased from £2 to £5.
