MARAROA’S ROUGH PASSAGE.

CHRISTCHURCH, July 2. Four and a-haif hours behind her ordinary time the ferry steamer Mararoa berthed at Lyttelton to-day, after experiencing a rough trip from Wellington. A southerly wind and head sea hindered the vessel on her journey south, and at times, although she was kept under full uteam, only seven knots an hour were registered. The Mararoa left Wellington three-quarters of an hour behind her schedule time. As she passed out of the Headß she ran into exceptionally heavy weather. This state of things continued until within 20 miles of the Lyttelton Heads this morning The Mararoa eventually arrived at Lyttelton at 12.20 p jn. She wore a weather-beaten look as she glided into the wharf, and the salt was thickly crusted on her funnels. The ferry train was despatched for Christchurch at 12.45 p.m.
