Three shopkeepers and four assistant* wore charged in the Auckland Police Court with selling 1 “surprise packets.” The former were fined £lO each, and the latter £1 each. An appeal was lodged at Auckland ou Thursday by Mr R. A. Binger on behalf of Margaret Denver against Mr J. W. Poynton’s decision in the case in which she was fined for assaulting John Henry Hannan. Counsel at the hearing of the case alleged bias because Hannan was a personal friend of the magistrate's.
