GREAT AIR PAGEANT

A STRIKING DEMONSTRATION. LONDON, July 3. Their Majesties the Kings and Queens of Britain and Spain were among the 100,000 thrilled spectators at Hendon where the greatest air pageant in history waa held. A craning of necks followed the evolutions of aeroplanes of all types, which defied the laws of gravitation in their speeding and acrobating. Gigantic bombers dropping missiles, tiny Moths, stupendous speed single-seater fighters, and many machines of quaint design, equipped with secret devices took the air in succession, their silver-grey hulls scintillating in the bright sunshine. The Air Force squadron which recently returned from Capetown, participated and the pilots were presented to their Majesties. Special interest was shown in a- new “Pterodactyl,” resembling a huge moth, which hovered slowly and turned at low heights, and also in the autogyro which uncannily passed from time to time, demonstrating its ability to descend vertically and slowly.
