TWO PEERAGES AWARDED. MANY MINOR DISTINCTIONS. LONDON, July 2. The Birthday Honours list covers 18 pages of the London Gozette. The recipients are located practically over the whole globe, although notable exceptions to this are the Union of South Africa and Canada where the conferment of honours is disfavoured. The only peerages are Baron Tredegar, who becomes a viscount, and Mr Henry Derry, a Welsh colliery owner, who made large gifts for public purposes and has now been created a baron. The three new Privy Councillors are Colonel John Gretton, M.P., Sir Halford Mackinder, Chairman of the Imperial Ship ping and Imperial Economic Committees, and Lord Onslow. Six baronetcies are awarded for political or public services. The most prominent names among 25 knights bachelor are the musician, Mr Henry Coward Mr F. E. Lacey, Secretary of the Marylebone Cricket Club, and Mr Stanley Machin, who is prominent m Chamber of Commerce circles. Mr Frank Fox, the South Australian journalist, has been created a Knight Bachelor. The Grand Cross of the Bath is conferred on Sir Herbert Samuel, ex-Chair-inan of the Coal Commission. Mrs Massey is the sole Dame Grand Cross of the British Empire, while among the five Dame Commanders figure the veteran actress Mrs Kendal? and Dr Mary D. Scharlieb. Mr Robert H. Boyd, who was Fiji Commissioner at the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, has been awarded tho 0.8. E. HONOURS TO AUSTRALIANS. MANY KNIGIITHOODB AWARDED. SYDNEY, July 3. The birthday honours include the following Knight of St. Michael and' St. George, Sir Alexander M‘Cormack, surgeon. Knights of the British Empire (civil division), Mr Francis Greville Clark, President of the Victorian Legislative Council and Mr James Oswald Fairfax, director of the Sydney Morning Herald. Knights Bachelor, Mr George Fairbaim, Agent-general for Victoria, and Mr George Mason Allard, Chairman of Amalgamated Wireless.
