SERVICE TO SOUTH ISLAND. AUCKLAND, May 24. A report from Suva states that the Flanters’ Association asked the Fiji Government recently if it would subsidise a special service of steamers to the South Island of New Zealand from Suva so that the banana tradfe. could be established. At the last meeting a letter was read from the Government stating that the Governor was unable to entertain any proposal that the Government should furnish any guarantee to the shipping companies.
