If the committee of the Carillon Society wishes us to pronounce that word “carillon” (rhyming with million), would it not ba better to adopt that spelling also (asks a correspondent of the Wellington Evening Post), using a coined word rather than & mispronunciation of one already established in the English language? Personally I feel that pronunciation jars with a beautiful idea, and is liable to expose us to ridicule from educated visitors. Because Sydney has made a faux pas, why need we follovr in its footsteps? Or if we fail to reach agreement on this point, let us say only, “the bells.”
