The trustees of the Gigantic Cricket and Tennis Art Union, with prizes totalling £4OOO, announce that there- are still a few tickets unsold, and consequently the closing date has been extended for a few days. The drawing date remains unaltered, and results will be available next month. Tickets are ..obtainable from tobacconists, sports depots, etc. Fifty-seven applications for extension orders under “The Mortgages Final Extension Act, 1524,” will come before the judge, Sir William Sim, at the forthcoming sittings of the Supreme Court in Invercargill. “I am a draughtsman b v profession. 1 am a qualified civil engineer, and I am a B.Sc., Cambridge, 1894,” said a man who was convicted of being idle and disorderly and of the theft of £lO and two gimlet bitg and one pair of pliers, at the Auckland Magistrate’s Court. A proposal is on foot in Wellington (says the Evening Post) for the utilisation of Mangahao power for the extraction of salt from the waters of Cook Strait. It is understood that tests have given very satis, factory results. As the importation of salt into the dominion is not less than 40,000 tons ~er annum, and the wholesale price between £5 and £5 per ton, the industry may become of national importance.
