OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD.
A meeting of the Otago Hospital Board was held on Friday morning, and was attended by Mr W. E. S. Knight (chairman), Mesdames Macdonald and Jackson; Messrs Quelch, Scurr. Morgan, Hancock, Dove, and Dr Newlands. The Chairman’s honorarium was fixed at £2OO per annum. The Town Clerk wrote regarding paving the streets round the Dunedin Hospital. He stated that the matter would be considered when the allocations for the year were being dealt with.—Received. The New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition Company forwarded a copy of a letter sent to the medical officer of health as to the use of the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Logan Park for housing the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders’ Band, and asked for an opinion and advice whether there would be any clanger of infection if the bandsmen occupied the building.—The letter was received. Dr Inglis wrote that he had tested a cylinder of nitrous oxide. It was quite free from chlorine and from nitric oxide. It contained a small amount of oxygen (about 1 per cent.), but was certainly mainly good nitrous oxide. With the apparatus available lie had not been able to make an exact estimation of the percentage of nitrous oxide, but it appeared to be well over 50 per cent. He was* therefore of opinion that the gas was well suited for amesthetic purposes.—Received.
