For the international Asociation football match at Thebarton Oval the weather was favourable and the attendance fair. England had control in the early stages of the game, their combination being perfect and their attack brilliant. ITiey led at half-time by 3 goals to nil. In the second spell England became ragged in their defence and sluggish, while the Australians played doggedly in defenoe. The colonial forwards were weak, but Norman, at centre half, held Whittaker well. The Australians secured a penalty goal near the end, and the final'scores were: England 4 goals. Australia ... 1 goal. Battin obtained two goals and Whittaker and Elkes one each for England, and Gardiner shot Australia’s lone goal. Prominent on tile English side were Battin, Graham, and Charlton, and on the Australian side Norman, Mitchell, and Pilgrim.
