Good progress lias been made with the filling in o£ the course proper at Ellerslie between the seven and six-furlong posts, and everything promises to be in readiness for the Pakuranga Hunt Club’s meeting, which takes place the first week in October. . Pornpey is being kept going at Ellerslie in view of spring racing. The useful Lucullus gelding should turn out a good four-year-old. Namutero has rejoined the active brigade, and looks really well after his spell. Koyal Present is now being trained by Mr F. Gilchrist. The Australian-bred gelding has not won a race since winning the Avondale Cup two seasons back, though he has filled a minor place on several occasions during the interval. Of the two-year-olds in training at headquarters the Absurd —Moira Machree colt commands most attention at present. Ihe full brother to Loyal Irish is certainly a promising-looking youngster. Mr N. Cunningham has a nice-looking two-year-old by Day Comet—Chime, a halfsister to Rafa. The Lucullus—Avon Park youngster m Mr F. Gilchrist’s stable is a promising sort. He is well grown and moves attractively in his work The Absurd—Flora MacDonald youngster in Mr J. Williamson’s stable is well forward. He hits out very well in Ins work Chairman is being kept in steady “work, and should be ready for early engagements.
