SUBMARINE ERUPTION.
AUCKLAND, July 16. Captain Davey, of the Tofua, describing a submarine eruption about 20 miles N.N. of Nukualofa, said: In a pale green patch half a mile in area there w-as a dense cloud of steam about 100 ft in diameter, and at the same height, with lesser vapours at a much higher altitude. The sea around was very agitated, in fact, boiling. No debris was observed. The day the vessel sailed a sharp earthquake was felt at Nukualofa.
