PRESBYTERIAN ASSOCIATION. Tlie monthly meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Presbyterian S.S.A. was held on Wednesday. Ten members were present. Messrs E. Cameron a.nd J. Dick reported that they had visited both the Nisbet Home and the Glendining Home during the month The Secretary reported 97 children under the association’s care at June 30. There had been some cases of influenza both among the children and the members of the staff, but they were not serious. Both homes were well staffed. The inmates of Ross Home on June 30 numbered 47. There had been two admissions and three deaths during the month. The matron reported much sickness amongst the old folk. Several of the staff had been laid as ; de for a few days with the prevailing epidemic. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts for the month were £857 2s Id and disbursements 1-726 19s. It was arranged that the chairman inspect the fire escapes at Nisbet Home and see that everything is in order. The necessity for covering in the verandahs and outside passage ways of Ross Home was reported on. In wet and windy weather they cannot be used by the old people. Further, the exposure to the weather, necessary when passing from tho main building t-o the terrace of bed-sitting rooms, was prejudicial to the health of the inmates and staff alike. It was further pointed out that the present system of heating the building by coal fires was both inadequate and very expensive. Prices were submitted for a complete system of hot-water heating, a careful estimate showed that ultimately the saving on fuel and labour would go far to meet the cost of this installation. A sub-committee was appointed to go fully into the matter, and if satisfied as to the finance to have power to accept the lowest tender. The following members retired by effluxion of time: —Messrs W. H. Adams, D. Barron, P. S. Bett, Joseph M'George, Thomas Somerville, Dr Riley. It was decided to recommend the Presbytery of Dunedin to reappoint these members. It was further agreed that the Presbytery be asked to appoint Rev. G. H. Jupp in place of Rev. G. H. Balfour (resigned), and Mr J. J. Clark in place of Mr W. Crawley (retired).
