ATHLETIC AND CYCLING UNION

The seventeenth annual meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Athletic anti Cycling Union was held in tho Empire Buildings on Tuesday evening. Mr A. Polwarth (president) presided oser a very large attendance, and in opening the meeting extended a very hearty welcome to the delegates from the vaiious country clubs. The splendid attendance that evening, he stated, showed the greatly revived interest in sport. Mr A. P. Scobie was present representing the Southland Union. Mr J. Reid (Maheno) wrote resigning owing to his removal to Southland.- —Received with regret, a minute of appreciation of Mr Reid's services to be placed- on the books of ihe union. Tho (_ hairman. in moving tho adoption of the report and balance sheet, stated that the Otago Centre was to be congratulated on the success oi the past year, which had been the best they had experienced sinca the war. The four new cycling clubs wero going to be of great assistance to tho centre, and they had already produced some very promising riders. ihe year had been commenced with a credit balance of £37 Its od, and it ended with a balance of £25 Os ICd. Tile report and balance sheet were adopted without further discussion. REMITS TO CONFERENCE. Some remits to the conference wera adapted and others rejected. ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS. The election of office-bearers for the erv9uing year resulted as follows: —President, Mr R. B. Meek; vice presidents. Messrs J. Mathescn (senior) and T. Read (junior); bon. secretary and treasurer, Mr D. F. M'Kay; auditor, Mr G. Davidson: committee- Messrs A. Polwarth, J D. Forbes. A. M. Wylie, G. Bruce, It. G. Yarcoe, J. Moore. R. Ferguson. \V. Rennick. A. A, Valentine, ami G. Jo all. * On the motion of Mr M'Kay it was decided not to send any representative to the conference this year as the centre already has four delegates on the council of the New Zealand Union. At the close of the meeting presentations were made to Mr J Lang Mr A. Polwarth (for Mrs Polwarth). and Miss G. M'Kay for their services to the centre.
