JAPAN AND COMMUNISM. TOKIO, June 5. The police arrested over 100 Communists and Socialists. They will be charged with conspiring to organise a Communist State. June 7. The police activities against the Communists have extended to the Labourites, two prominent Labour leaders being arrested to-day. It is expected that there will be many more arrests, including writers on Labour topics. The police searched the buildings of the Waseda University, which was the scene of disorders recently, when a number of the Faculty attempted to organise a militaristic society among the students. Japan insists that the marines acted purely on the defensive.
