DOMINION TOURNAMENT. AUCKLAND, January 22. Owing to heavy rain since Saturday play was postponed till this afternoon. Post section play was resumed in the afternoon. The greens made a great recovery after having been practically under water in the morning, and the surface, though tricky, was good. In the sixth round of the Rinks Jury (Poneonby) 29 defeated Parker (Stanley) 19; Thomson (Carlton) 21, Parsons (Ponsonby) 18; A. K. Smart (West End, New Plymouth) 24, Buckley (Grey Lynn) 20. Semi-finals.—Smart 23, Thomsen 12; Parsons 18, Jury 14. The game between Smart and Thomson in the Rinks opened with a six to the former, a two and four singles to Thomson equalising on the sixth head. Smart then landed a three, and at the twelfth head the score was 14 to Bin favour of Smart. Following a single to Thomson, Smart got the next five heads, making him 23 to 9 on the eighteenth head. Parsons and Jury provided a better game in the semi-finals. Parsons scored five in three heads, Jury scoring four in the succeeding three. At the fourteenth head. Parsons was 10 to Jury's 9, and on the fifteenth he scored seven. Jury scored three singles, but could not make up the deficiency. Parsons's seven was the result of splendia drawing, his opponent's drives failing. PAIRS. In the Pairs, M'Laren and Walker (Ponsonby) proved green winners in section L, defeating Clarke and Wakerley (Rocky Nook) by 23 to 17. In the first round of the play-off M'Laren and Walker beat Fuge and Ball (Carlton) by 25 to 19; Gatland and Gatland (Onebunga) beat Berry and O’Hagan (Temuka), the latter retiring at the ninth head with the score 19—4. January 23. The rinks championship was won by Somerville, Hoskin. Casey, and Parsons (Ponsonby), who defeated M'Leod, Brown, Griffin, and A. K. Smart (West End, New Plymouth) by 23 points to 17. Lord Jellicoe was an interested spectator. Smart scored two on the first head and again on the second. Parsons scored three on the third head by good drawing shots, and two on the next, the scores being equal on the fifth. On the seventh head Parsons scored four and a similar number on the eighth. Smart made a splendid uphill fight with a deficit of eight, and on the 17th head the scores were 17 all. Then Parsons gained a three and two singles, making the score 22—17 on the 20th. Parsons was runner-up at the 1918 and 1922 tournaments at Dunedin. In the Singles Jury (Ponsonby) beat Brookfield (St. Heliers). 21 —9. In the final Maxwell Walker (Ponsonby) 21 beat Tury 15. At the sixth head Jury led 10—6 and at the 11th Walker was 12 to Jury’s 10. On the 17th Walker had increased his lead to 19—11. . Walker won the Singles in 1915 and 1 1919, both* at Auckland. In the Pairs’ green winner, Section A, Loveridge and Pilkington (Hamilton) 2l beat Martin and O’Sullivan (Carlton) 10. In the play-off the first round resulted: Meredith and Bell (Hamilton) 24, Casey and Parsons (Ponsonby) 17 M’lntyre and Kilgour (Carlton) 20, Thurs- " Ston and Kerr (Masterton) 18. Rigby and Tonkin (North-East Valley) 21, Loveridge and Pilkington 18. M'Callum and Edwards (Temuka) 17 Wyatt and Parker (Stanley) 16. EDWARDS THE PAIRS. AUCKLAND, January 24. In the Pairs semi-finals played this morning, M’Callum and Edwards (Temuka) .outplayed M’Laren and Maxwell Walker (Poneonby), defeating them by 20 to 12 after reaching 16 to 5 on the fourteenth head. In the match between Rigby and Tonkin (NorthEast Valley) and Gatland and Gatland (Onebunga), the latter led all the way, but lost the game in the last head, when Tonkin got a three, winning by 21 to 20. The final of the Pairs proved sensational. The contestants were Rigby and Tonkin (North-East Valley) and M’Callum and -Edwards (Temuka). The game ended in a draw —17 all—and on a re-play Edwards won by 25 to 24. NEW SOUTH WALES TOURING TEAM. AUCKLAND, January 26. The New South Wales bowlers played four rinks representing the Auckland Centre. The visitors were defeated by 104 points to £4.
