COMPETITIONS. Following are the competitions fixed upon (or this season by the Otago Anglers’ Association : Waikouaiti River, February 10. A natural bait competition was held on the Rangitata River from 6 p.m. on January 1 till 6 p.m. on January 2. Mr H. P. Arnst, proved to be the winner with 15 fish, weighing 591 b; also taking a special prize for the heaviest fish (111 b). Mr R. Terris was second with eight fish, weighing 34jjlb. A special prize for the best-conditioned fish was won by Mr R. G. Arlington. Our Waipahi correspondent reports: “The river is in very bad condition with weed. A few fish are being caught on the cricket, but most of the local anglers prefer the Pomahaka at the present time, as it is in good fishing order..’’ The Shag River was exceedingly high during the week-end, but the previous week good sport was obtained by a number of local anglers. The Contour Channel is providing very poor sport at the present time, few fish having been caught during the last month.
