The Queenstown Borough Council has decided that Saturday should be the statutory half-holiday. The Taieri County Council has resolved to observe the statutory half-holiday on Saturday. Professor J. Rankine Brown has been elected vice-chancellor of the New Zealand University Senate. Dr Wall, Professor of English at Canterbury College, and honorary curator of the herbarium at the Christchurch Museum, has written to the Otago Daily Times expressing admiration of the work done by Messrs Hart Bros, and Darton in the collection and cultivation of veronicas at: Wetherstones. 'Through the generosity of Messrs Hart, the collection has now been practically duplicated in the Dunedin Botanical Gardens. Dr Wall says the value of the collection is almost incalculable.
