The thunderstorm experienced on Sunday was apparently not so severe locally as it was in some of the country districts (says the Southland Times). A resident of Mataura Island states that the storm was one which will long be remembered and was the worst experienced for many years. A young man riding home from Pine Bush was startled by a flash of lightning which struck one of the electric poles recently erected by the Power Board. The pole was split and a splinter struck the young man on the head but did not harm him.
