The victory of Insurrection in the Wellington Cup was well received locally. The Kilbroney gelding was unfortunate in not winning one • of the principal events at Elierslie. A win for Ilia popular ownertrainer was not out of its turn. Raceful was the only Ellerslie-trained horse competing at Wellington, a victory in the January Welter coming his way. Mr IF. Loomb has taken Perfect Day, Royal Blood, Rippling, and Persian King to the Gisborne meeting. The team should pick up some of the stake money. On the concluding day of the A.R.C. Summer meeting Perfect Day finished third to Boomerday and Mangamahoe in the Grandstand Handicap, of one mile and a-quarter. The G-usanforte gelding is meeting a weaker field in the Gisborne Cup. On her running at Elierslie Crosswords will be bandy in the hurdle events. Though she failed to pick up a stake at Elierslie, -Black Lace was galloping very well on the track, and may do better at Gisborne. Mr J. Kemp has two promising ones in Jolly Gay and Lady Merriwee, The former shows a lot of _ pace on the track. The latter is a half-sister to Miss Muriel. R. B. Brown is handling- a good-looking colt by Egypt—■ All’s Well. The youngster should be useful later on. Sir Otway, the two-year-old full broth.r to Surveyor, is shaping better on the track. Blue Cross is. one of the active brigade at Elierslie. The Marble Arch gelding looks well after his spell, and will soon be ready to race. Sussex and Royal Fancy have joined F. Gilchrist’s team. The latter has been boomed for some time, but has yet !o win a race. Canowindra has not been in work long, but brought off a surprise victory in the Kawakawa Cup last week returning a long price. The Australian-bred gelding was unlucky last season, filling a minor place in several important events,
