FRANCE’S BUDGET
LONDON, October 5. The Daily Express Paris correspondent 6tatee that France’s 1922 Budget is an obstacle to M. Briand going to Washington and may cause the Government's fall. There is a deficit of £100,000,000. The Financial Committee of the Chamber of Deputies claims that the special allowance to Government officials, which is costing
the country £28,500,000 annually, should be stopped before new taxes are created or loans floated. The Government at first approved of this, but now says that the cost of living has not fallen sufficiently to justify a stoppage of the allowance. If M. Briand goes to Washington he will remain only a fortnight. M. Viviani will then be the head of the French Delegation.
