VIOLENT STORMS.
MANY HOUSES FLOODED. LONDON, September 12. During the night London was swept by a phenomenal thunderstorm. The wind attained a velocity of 45 miles an hour. The rainfall is the heaviest since June, 1917, 2in being recorded in some places. It is calculated that the fall over the metropolitan police district totalled 67,000.000 tons of water. The parks were strewn with branches of trees, and the roadway in Rotten Row was nearly carried away by the torrent. The storm was severe on the coast. Many bouses were flooded and damaged, and orchards in Kent were stripped of fruit. The hurricane left a trail of havoc over a wide area. BLIZZARD IX NATAL. CAPETOWN. September 11. The worst blizzard for many years is raging in the greater part of Xatal and the Free State. Trains snowed upi at Maritzburg were cut off from the north for 48 hours. STORMS IN VICTORIA. MELBOURNE, September 12. Heavy downpours of rain, accompanied bv severe thunderstorms, caused floods in many of the country districts during the week-end. One man was drowned. THE TEXAS DISASTER. NEW YORK, September 12. A telegram from San Antonio states that more than 100 bodies of the'flood storm victims have been recovered in the Texan lowlands. Tlie city victims total 50, whilst 50 are missing.
