EVEREST EXPEDITION
WORK OF EXPLORATION. LONDON, September 10. Reports from the Everest expedition, dated Kharta, August 17, show that much interesting exploration work was done in the eastern valleys, seek'fig an approach to Mount Everest itself. Olio party climbed the summit of LangmaLa (18,G00ft) and also explored- a spur opposite to Mount Everest (19,400 ft i obtaining glorious panoramic views of vast cliffs, gorges, and glaciers. The expedition met with much flower-decked, grassy country on the slopes. The experiences thus gained decided the leaders that it was impossible to ascend Mount Everest from the east, and they are now exploring the valleys around Ylakalau and the Kharta -Tsing-Po Valley, which is clothed with most luxuriant vegetation. A feature of the district is the number of lakes. Lakes are very rare in the Himalayas.
