CLUTHA VALLEY A. AND P SOCIETY.

About 35 members of the Clutha Valley A. and P. Society attended the annual meeting on the 23rd ult. The president {Mr A. Craig) presided. The secretary presented the balance sheet, which showed a credit balance of £4O. The balance sheet was adopted, and the meeting decided to vote the sum of £ls as an honorarium to the secretary. Mr Sprosen, who judged the poultry sections, wrote stating that ho wished to donate £1 as a special prize for Minorea3 at the next show. —This offer was gratefully accepted The silver cup for the exhibitor gaining most points in the sheen section was handed by the president to Mr James Smith, of Greenfield. This cup is to be held by Mr Smith for 12 months. Another cup, for the largest number of entries from one household, was handed to Mr T. Barr, Tuapeka Mouth, to be held by him for this year The officers appointed for the ensuing year are: President, Mr C. F. Lucas; vice-president, Mr P. Miller; auditor, Mr E. Smith; treasurer. Mr Campbell. The ballot for four committeemen resulted in the following gentlemen being added to the committee--Messrs A. Craig, J. M'Kenzie, A. King, and J. Weir The secretary's remuneration was fixed at £ls. A motion, proposed by Mr A. Craig and seconded by Mr A. King, that the next show be held at Clydevale was carried unanimously. Mr Goodman suggested that classes for children’s poultry be included in the next schedule, and also classes for children’s pets. Both of these suggestions were favourably commented upon, and were referred to the committee. Mr Mosley moved —“That this society heartily support, the other local bodies and settlers in their endeavour to get the Government to assist in keeping the river navigable.” Mr Smith seconded, and in support of tho motion said that a petition was in circulation asking the Government to assist in d red trine- the river where necessary. This petition wou'd not. lie said, interfere with the construction of the proposed Valley railway, and till that came 'the settlers must have some way of transporting their produce. The motion was carried. WOOL COMMITTEE. LIMITATION AND RESERVES. WELLINGTON, June 27. With regard to tho meeting of the Wool Committee which is to be held this week, it is understood that no alteration will be made beyond what has been agreed to with regard to the disposal of woo!—namely, an undertaking on the part of woolbrokers not to sell below the fixed minimum reserves, also a limitation of the quantities offered. The basic idea of the scheme is to relieve, not induce, the congestion of the market. J une 28. The Wool Committee held its first meeting to-day. The Post has learned that it is the intention of the committee to carry out its work with the least possible hindrance to trading. The necessary formalities have been arranged in the simplest form Permits will be issued on undertakings* from wool brokers and wool shippers, exclusive of wool buyers purchasing at auction. The Customs will revive a list of those to whom such permits are issued, and thereafter the business of those holding permits will. proceed as though no requisition existed. At' the conclusion of each auction sale brokers will furnish tho Customs Department at the port of shipment

with a certificate that tho wo-ol has boon purchased] at prices not less than the fixed minimum prices, and this certificate will be all that is required for the free export of wool. There will be no restriction on the export of wool bought in. accordance with the regulations, and scoured .allotments have been made for the July sales, and the committee will go full}* into tho forming of a policy for carry-over wools, extension of markets, and usee for New Zealand wool.
