UNEMPLOYMENT.

INCREASING IN WELLINGTON. RECENT ARRIVALS IDLE. WELLINGTON, June i\. The records of the labour bureau show that the number of unemployed registering is increasing, the total number of names recorded being about- 450. To-morrow a score of men will be absorbed in public works and private employment. All the men who have called during the past fortnight, if they fail to call at the bureau, it is concluded that they have obtained work, and their names are struck off, so that the records may show the actual position. Tho number of unemployed increased by about 89 during the last week. Quite a number of the applicants during the last two days are comparatively recent arrivals from England and Australia, 6ome having landed at the end of last week. Of the skilled workers out of employment the number is small, the largest number of skilled unemployed being engaged in the engineering trade —mostly fitters and turners.
