NOVEMBER FIXED FOR SUMMER SHOW. Ihe monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society, held on Inursday, was attended by Messrs Edgar C. Maziett (president), G. Biack, W. Gardiner, James Ross, A. ileming, J. Nimmo, D. Andrew, A. Johnson J Macandrew, G. H. Mac Ewan, R. A. Ewing D. Murray, J. Birtles, R. A. S. Cantrell, J. Cow, K F. Duthie, H. Turner, H. M. Driver, T. T. Ritchie, G. R. Ritchie, T. Scctt, H. Price, J. W. Biair, and H. C. Campbell. < Apologies were received from Messrs W. Moynihan, F. Freeman, James Begg, ana W. O. M'Kellar. Ihe Finance Committee submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the Winter Show, which was approved, on the motion of Mr G. Black, seconded by Mr E. F. Duthie. Accounts amounting to £I2BO 16s lid were passed for payment. Air R. A. Living, marshal of the home industry section, submitted a number of suggestions for improving his section, and also referred to a letter from Mrs J. Rutherford bearing on the same. Oil his motion, seconded by Air G. It. Ritchie, tho matter was referred to the sub-committee for consideration. Letters of thanks were received from a number of visitors to the Winter Show, which were noted. Ihe Secretary of the New Zealand Council cf Agriculture wrote advising that the dates of conference had been fixed for July--20 and 21 in Wellington.—lt was resolved to ask Air James Begg to represent this society at the conference. Mr H. Werner, Alexandra, wrote offering suggestions in connection with the fruit section at the Winter Show. —Ihe letters were referred to the Fruit Committee to report. Air W. 11. Brunton, Palmerston, wrote submitting suggestions in the grain section. —Referred to the Grain Committee. The report of the Producers’ and Allied Interests Conference, which was convened by the Board of Agriculture and held in Wellington on March 31, was noted and laid on the table. Protests were received in connection with two classes in the home industry section. —on the motion of Mr R. A. Ewing, seconded by Air 11. M. Driver, it was unanimously resolved that the first protest be not upheld. Ihe letter in connection with the second protest was referred to the Home Industry Committee on the motion of Air Duthie, seconded by Mr Black. The recommendation from the annual meeting that the. competition in the pure breed cattle classes at the Summer Show be restricted to registered animals was referred -to the Cattle Committee for a report. Mr George C. Thomson, on behalf of Alessrs Hughes and Cossar, Auckland, presented a cup to be competed for in the Clydesdale horse section of tho Summer Show, the conditions to be arranged by tho committee. —It was resolved to thank Mr Thomson for the donation. Ihe various sub-committees for ihe year were set up. It was resolved that letters cf thanks be sent to class stewards and others not on ’the committee- for generous assistance rendered lit the Winter Show. The following new members were proposed and elected:—-Alessrs Angus MTvor, Aliddiemarch; Walter T. Alathewson, Kokonga; James Spratt, Sutton; George Peat, Aliddiemarch; E. T. Kittu, Alexandra; J. Fleming, Mornington; Janies H. Paul, Milton; John Edie, Lawrence; A. J. Bogg, Pukeawa; Allan Mitchell, Clydesvale; E. Howllscn, Dunedin; Young Bros., Outram; John Scott, Balclutha; James Grant, Croydon ; J. D. Kcvio, Crookston; Cecil Jlazlett, Dunedin. At the close of the meeting the Cattle Committee met and resolved that a sale of bulls of all pure breeds entered with the society for the Summer Show should be held on the morning of the second day of the show, commencing at 9.30 a.m. Air David Murray offered a trophy valued at £lO 10s for the most points iti breeding Shorthorns, to be won three times, not necessarily in succession.—Received with thanks. SHOW DATES. The recommendation passed at the annual meeting witu regard to me Summer Stow dates was brought up by Air Win. Gardiner, who considered that in the circumstances February was the most suitable date Irom a financial point of view, and alter going fully into his views on tho question, moved that the committee adhere to the February dates. Air George Black seconded the motion. Mr L. F. Duthie, speaking in favour of the November dates, went fully into the position, and submitted figures snowing the entry tees and gate money received for the last 10 years, which showed that but for the increase in the charge for admittance the February dates were no better financially than November. Air D. Murray spoke strongly for November from an exhibitor's point of view. After considerable discussion, in which several members spoke from various points of view, Mr Gardiner’s motion was lost on the voices. The ChaFrman stated that the committee were indebted to Air Gardiner for inducing such a healthy discussion, and stated that the present meeting was probably the largest held by the society. The views expressed by the various members would be very helpful. On the motion of Air E. _F. Duthie, seconded by Air D. Alurray, the following show fixtures were decided upon: Horse Show, September 29; Summer Show, November 30 and December 1. Tho question of fixing the Winter Show date is to stand in abeyance until the next meeting. It was also resolved that kindred A. and I*. Societies should bo advised of the dates decided upon.
