AUSTRALIAN CENSUS.
MELBOURNE, June 16. The interim census figures show tho population of the commonwealth to bo 5,419,702. The figuies for New South Wales are 2.096,393 ; Victoria, 1,530,114 ; Queensland, 755,573; South Australia, 494,867; Western Australia, 329,228, Tasmania, 213,527. These figures entitle New South Wales to an additional seat in the House of Representatives at the expense of Victoria. SYDNEY, June 17. The total increase in the population of the commonwealth, exclusive of full-blooded natives, for the last 10 years is 969,721. The increase in the various States is as follows:—New South Vales, 449,659; Victoria, 214,563; Queensland, 149,760; South Australia, 86,309: Western Australia, 47,114; Tasmania, 22,316. The increase equals 41.07 per cent. The commonwealth census figures disclose the fact that, the males in tlie commonwealth number 2,751.781 and tl;e females 2.667.921. The grand totals are exclusive of fullblooded natives, the returns for the territories not yet being available.
