THE ORPHANAGES.

DR GIBB BAYS: “HANDS OFF!” WELLINGTON, June 17. Speaking at rlio annual meeting cf the Presbyterian Church Orphanage Association, the Rev. Dr Gibb referred to the recent hint of some interference with church orphanages. “If they do this,” he said, “they will have a hornet’s nest about, them. They will have on the platform against them the Roman Catholic archbishop, the Anglican bishop, the representatives of the Presbyterian Church and of tile Methodists and Salvation Army. Separated from one another, we sometimes think we are weak in not presenting a rufti. eiently united front to the foe; but if we stand together ! do not know of any Ministry that will -tund against us.” Dr Gibb added that thoy welcomed any t<vt the Government liked to impose, and invited the closest inspection night or day. Speaking of the Presbyterian orphanages, tie knew they compared more than favourably with the handiwork of the Government, and he thought he could sav the same of all church institutions. Continuing, he said: "I think five may say to the Government. ‘Hands off; we have taken up this work.’”
